The back is worked in plain stockinette stitch. Knit according to your size up to the armholes; then separate the front and back sections, leaving a gap for the sleeves. Just a bit before you bind off the back section, you can work some optional short rows to give the shoulders a better shape. After you finish knitting each part separately, graft the front and back together using the Kitchener stitch or a three-needle bind-off. Pick up stitches for the sleeves and continue to the cuffs, working decreases to shape the sleeves.
